Bespoke Design at Emma Calvert
How I transform the fabric of your stories into fine jewellery.
Every bespoke piece of jewellery begins with a feeling, a memory or a milestone. My unique design process bridges the world of textiles and fine jewellery, taking fabrics that hold personal meaning - whether it’s lace from a wedding gown, a textile from a proposal city or an antique family heirloom - and immortalising them in solid gold.
Step inside our world and discover how we can collaborate to create a completely unique piece of wearable art.
The Process
From Sentiment to Solid Gold: Step-by-Step
-
In-Studio or Virtual | 45 Mins
Every piece begins with a conversation. We’ll meet at my Dorset studio or via video call to discuss your ideas, inspiration, budget, and timeline.
This is where you share your story and introduce your material. You can bring an offcut of your wedding dress or suit fabric, a textile found in a meaningful travel destination, or inherited family gold and gemstones that you wish to remodel.
If you have a tight deadline, please let me know and I'll do my best to accommodate it.
-
2 - 3 Weeks
Following our discussion, I'll create hand-drawn and digital sketches based on your ideas. Offering my guidance, we'll collaborate via email to refine the design with your feedback.
I will also provide quotes for your design.
Once the design is confirmed a 50% deposit is required to begin the making process and start sourcing precious metals and gemstones or diamonds to match your vision. If you are using heirloom stones, we will carefully assess them in the studio.
-
Once the final design is approved, I'll set a provisional delivery date (usually 8 weeks from confirmation) and keep you closely informed throughout the making process.
I ensure every element is thoughtfully considered. Using the traditional lost-wax casting technique, your textured wax model is transformed into solid gold or platinum.
Once cast, Emma hand-finishes the metal in the studio, ensuring the fine textile patterns catch the light perfectly. Your diamonds or sapphires are expertly hand-set and your finished heirloom is polished to perfection - ready to be worn and treasured forever.
-
Upon completion of the piece, the remaining balance will be due. Once settled, your jewellery will be securely shipped via Royal Mail Special Delivery.
