A New Home

It’s hard to believe it’s September already and that we’re still living in this strange new world of masks and endless hand-sanitiser. When lock-down first began back in March, I was living in a small flat in south east London, not far from my studio at Cockpit Arts.

For the first couple of months me and my husband were navigating both working from home - turning our kitchen/living room into a shared office/workbench from 9-6 during the week, and using the balcony for our coffee breaks and lunch. Although we settled into our new routine, it certainly felt like our home was not set up for this kind of working scenario and ultimately we craved more space both inside and out.

Having talked about moving out of London and back to the coast for the last couple of years, but just unsure how to make it happen - with working from home being our new normal we figured this was our chance to test it out. And in July we decided to go for it and found ourselves a new home in Christchurch, near where I grew up, close to the sea.

Leaving my studio at Cockpit Arts was a hard decision, having been there for 6 years I loved the sense of community and joy of having a dedicated work space which I shared with fellow jeweller (and dear friend) Maud Traon. Unpacking in my new home studio, with a view over the garden and to the harbour beyond, there was real sadness in missing my old studio, but at the same time I knew this was new opportunity to refresh and restart - not just in my business but to create a whole new lifestyle.

That was nearly 3 months ago now and although it’s taken a little while to settle in, I love the new space! And I’ve been starting to work back on my new collection again, combining beautiful vintage ribbons with contemporary colours. Using ribbons sourced from across Europe, this collection consists of one-off treasures and limited edition designs and I can’t wait to share it in full with you soon.
