Reuse & Rework

As part of my pledge to create more sustainable jewellery one of my aims was to use 75% vintage and recycled ribbons in all new designs. Having started exploring the use of beautiful vintage and antique ribbons in my work last December and being invited earlier this year to create a capsule collection for Dazzle’s virtual exhibition, I felt like this was the perfect time to bring my Reworked collection to fruition.

With travel restrictions in place, I went online to source my vintage ribbons through trusted antique textile dealers. Many of the ribbons I come across are from France, from haberdashery stores that have long since closed, some of the ribbons had not even been unwrapped from their brown paper packets!

To complement the vintage ribbons, I combined them with a mix recycled polyester ribbons (from PET bottles), military braids and velvet ribbon - using the different textures and colours to reframe the vintage pieces in a distinctive modern style.

Each piece is finished with square sterling silver ends. These were handmade from the last of my current stock of silver sheet (I will be moving to Eco-silver 100% recycled sheet for future designs) and work as a magnetic clasp for both the necklaces and bracelets.

This collection is available to buy at Dazzle Invites - a virtual exhibition of contemporary jewellery with 30 jewellers showing unique, limited-edition designs, created specially for the exhibition.

DAZZLE INVITES: online and available to buy from 17 November - 10 January
